Finally, Warm Weather!
Apr 23, 2008 - 12:19 AM - by bmroyer
Man I love this weather we have been having. Mostly because I've been laid off work for a month now lol. Anyways, not everything is good. I just got a boat from my grandpa, a 14ft aluminum boat..ya its a fixer upper. So far we repainted the trailer, and now we are finishing up scraping the seals off the rivets. After we re seal everything, then we are going to repaint the inside of the boat like a moss green color. Then we gotta shine the outside up! The bad part is my friend thats helping me cut me with a putty knife on one hand, and just today my dad was beating dents out of the boat, and I had to hold the steel on the other side...and I smashed my pinky between the steel and the boat when it bounced! I think it might be broken, its all black and blue and I can hardly move it. I just hope it gets better soon so I can get back to playing guitar.

Welcome Back!
Jan 02, 2008 - 5:10 PM - by bmroyer
Wow, this year went really fast didn't it? I'm just glad Christmas is out of the way..going to three different houses really gets tiring. Now its time to relax a bit, and reflect on the year we lay to rest, and the year that we should look forward to.
A new year can mean alot of different things. Breaking old habits, getting a better hold of your finances, or going on a diet. Some people don't even look at the new year to mean anything. But as writers, you should look at the new year to bring you new ideas, more time to write, and steady progress on your work. Take the new year seriously, 2008 can bring alot of things.
Don't forget to stop by the forums and do some posting! Thats should be your #1 goal in 2008, beat bmroyer in post count!
Take care, Merry late Christmas, and Happy late New Year!

I have something planned to post before New Years, nothing really special because nothing really happened around here this year. Things have been pretty slow. I will also reveal the plans for next year, and hopeful get this site rolling again!

NanoWrimo 2007
Oct 01, 2007 - 8:34 PM - by playstation60
Well folks, sign up begins tonight. I don't know the exact time, but it's Pacific, whatever it is. LOL. Anyhow, if you are not familiar with NanoWrimo, it stands for National Write a Novel Month. The competition begins at 12 midnight (local time) on November the first and runs through 11:59:59 PM (local) on the 30th of November. The objective is to write either a complete novel in those 30 days, or the first 50,000 words of a novel to be completed at a later time.

The emphasis on the competition is quantity over quality. The pace an author needs to put themselves through does not allow for editing, it isn't the point anyhow. You need to write 1,667 (well 1,666.66 actually) words per day, which amounts to about 2 1/2 pages of 12 point font, per day.

I believe that one of the primary principals behind this mentality is that if you get your butt in the seat and start to write it is better than spending your life saying you want to write. It doesn't matter what is written, just that something is written.

The only other major rule I think I should mention is that you cannot use a WIP (work in progress) for NanoWrimo. No previous written material is allowed. You can plan for it, even draw up plots and such, but no original material can be written until Nov 1.

I am pretty sure I am going to give it a go this year. This will be my first one. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I've got an idea I think I want to roll with too. It's a Stephen King kind of spiel, dealing with a killer soda bottle. Hehe.

Anyone else going to give it a go?
